Draw the graphs of the following equations: x + y = 5, x – y = 5. (i) Find the solution of the equations from the graph. (ii) Shade the triangular region formed by the lines and the y – axis.

The solution of the pair of equations will be the point where the two lines meet each other. Hence, x = 5, y = 0 is the required solution.

The co-ordinates of the vertices of the triangle formed by the lines and the y-axis are (0, 5), (0, -5), (5, 0).
