In this question we are asked to discuss the differences between two metabolic processes that is photosynthesis and cellular respiration. First the basis of comparison is asked to be done on the basis of the balanced chemical equation. So, for photosynthesis it is 6CO2 plus 12H2O in presence of sunlight plus glucose, molecular glucose C6H12O6 plus 6O2 and 6H2O. We can also write the net equation for this which will cancel out this water molecule and leave 6 water molecules here. The reactants here would be carbon dioxide and water and the products here would be a molecule of glucose C6H12O6, 6 molecules of oxygen and we can also write water. For cellular respiration it is going to be the opposite of photosynthesis because we are going to oxidize C6H12O6 in presence of oxygen to form 6 molecules of carbon dioxide, 6 of water and generate the ATP which is the energy current of the cell. Here the reactant would be C6H12O6, glucose and an oxygen molecule and the products are going to be carbon dioxide is released, water, metabolic water and ATP. Now we are asked to sketch the organisms that undergo these processes. So plants or other organisms that have chloroplast in them will perform photosynthesis. Cellular respiration can be performed by both plants and animals. Basically the organisms need to have mitochondria. It is important to remember that only the cells that contain mitochondria will undergo cellular respiration. Now to sketch the organelles that undergo these processes. So the organelle that undergoes photosynthesis is chloroplast. So chloroplast is a double membrane bound structure. This is the outer membrane, this is the inner membrane of chloroplast. Outer membrane, inner membrane and it has individual units called thylakoid which are stacked upon one another and are connected to the thylakoid with the help of stroma family. This matrix of chloroplast is called stroma and this is thylakoid. So thylakoid basically contains pigments and photosystems that are responsible for undergoing the light reaction part of the photosynthesis. Whereas stroma is the section where dark…
