Penn State Football tumbles down rankings after loss to Indiana

Penn State Football slid down the AP top 25 poll and Coaches Poll after Saturday’s upset loss to Indiana

Penn State Football tumbled down the rankings, following Saturday’s stunning 36-35 overtime loss to the Indiana Hoosiers.

The Nittany Lions entered their first week of Big Ten play ranked No. 7 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll, and careened down 10 spots to No. 17. For their part, Indiana made its debut at No. 19.

Meanwhile, in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, Penn State also slid.

After entering as the No. 8 ranked team in the nation, Penn State begins Week 2 ranked No. 18, sliding eight spots.

Penn State will need to clean up a slew of mistakes made in the opener, ahead of a monumental Week 2 clash against Ohio State Saturday night at Beaver Stadium, that essentially serves as an elimination game for the Nittany Lions Big Ten East Division championship chances in this unprecedented eight-game sprint to the finish.

The Nittany Lions turned the football over four times, and committed costly penalties down the stretch that proved costly against the Hoosiers and simply can’t happen if Penn State is going to be competitive against the Buckeyes.
