African-inspired breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet with Donald and Friends.

One of Disney’s more interesting buffets, Tusker House offers a wide variety of healthy fare, an emphasis on whole grains, and many vegetarian choices, all with an African twist. Accompany your meal with a nice glass of South African wine and save room for the plethora of savory desserts served in tasting portions perfect for trying just a bit of everything. Better yet, Donald, Daisy, Mickey, and Goofy are on hand to spice up the atmosphere.

Jungle-themed restaurant with American cuisine at the Entrance Plaza. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

African, Asian, and Latin-inspired cuisine. Lunch and dinner.

Fine dining at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. Tiffins sits at the entrance to Pandora: World of Avatar with a sophisticated menu. Also Nomad Lounge, a wonderful indoor-outdoor bar overlooking a peaceful waterway.

Inside are three dining areas: Trek Gallery with its Asian influences; Grand Gallery, the largest filled with carved wood poles and walls of folk art from indigenous artists from around the world; and Safari Gallery celebrating Eastern and Southern Africa. The restaurant’s artwork represents the various places Disney Imagineers visited on their quest to create the Animal Kingdom park, also reflected in the restaurant’s global and exotic menu.

The house bread, served on arrival, is wheat focaccia accompanied by olive oil and pomegranate-molasses dipping sauce.

A daily sustainable fish is prepared crispy fried in a light batter and served on a somewhat gritty tasting, fermented and curry-spiced black bean sauce. Scattered atop the fish is a crispy green papaya salad. And know that the fish is served whole, an exciting presentation for sure. The most popular choice is the Surf and Turf, grilled South African-spiced beef tenderloin and seared scallops accompanied by potato pave and cola demi-glace. But I do love the butter chicken, the classic Indian dish, served with a contemporary flair accompanied by a delicious chickpea-rice croquette.

Asian cuisine. Lunch and dinner.

Here is one restaurant I return to time and time again. What I love is reasonably-priced but quite delicious food and a fun atmosphere of dining in someone’s home filled with Southeast Asian trinkets and artwork.

Start with the wok-fried green beans, lightly battered and served with a Thai chili sauce for dipping. Or a pile of ahi tuna nachos where instead of corn chips are crispy fried wontons topped with sushi-grade tuna mixed in with Asian-spiced slaw and topped with wasabi aioli and a sweet soy glaze. Then my favorite entrée of chicken tikka masala made with chicken breast in a traditional Masala sauce with a kick of spice. The Korean Beef is another great choice, wok-fried beef with peppers, onions, pineapple, and Korean BBQ sauce. Really, any entrée options are pleasers, so just choose whatever looks good to you and enjoy.
